Sri Lanka is planning to hire 500 teachers of foreign languages

State Minister of Education Aravindh Kumar announced that Sri Lanka plans to hire 500 foreign language teachers for schools.

Kumar informed reporters on Friday that Korean, German, French, Hindi, Chinese, and Japanese will receive preferential treatment.

Kumar emphasized in March the importance of learning languages like Japanese and Korean for graduates seeking jobs abroad.

By June 2024, 10,000 workers from Sri Lanka had been sent to South Korea, with plans to send approximately 6,000 workers to Japan.

To be able to find a job in these nations, applicants need to successfully complete a language skills exam.

END.
