Abolition of MP pension reaffirmed!

Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe says that reducing the privileges given to politicians is a primary objective of the current government and that the proposal to abolish the MP pension will be implemented in the future.

If politics is a way of life, then that politics is a business that we have rejected. Therefore, there is no reason for anyone to commit suicide. If there is no way to live without it, we will provide accommodation. Write to the dissatisfied. A settlement can be made,” said Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, responding to a statement made by Nandana Gunathilaka, a former member of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, regarding the abolition of MP pensions.

Regarding the proposal to abolish the MP pension, former MP Nandana Gunathilaka had posted on his Facebook account on August 2nd, stating that he had lost his job due to his full-time involvement in politics and that in this situation, if the pension was abolished, he would have no source of income to live on.

Therefore, he had posted a threatening statement on his Facebook account stating that if such a proposal were passed, those who pass it would have to suffer the consequences.

Speaking to the media in the Anuradhapura area regarding the relevant statement, Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe further said, “I have said it before the presidential election, I have said it before the general election. We need to have a country, not politics, to survive. There are no facilities like this anywhere in the world. When presidents retire, why are they handed over to the people to maintain? They become a burden to the people. The country has not been able to maintain it for the people and has gone bankrupt. There are still areas in our country where people are suffering terribly. Therefore, we will stop this maintenance with public money. We will change the privileges of the presidents and the laws made for it. We will also abolish the MP pension. These people will also get it when the people have it. It is not fair to make their own bills and burden the people. We have said it before the election and we will implement it.
