Sri Lanka ranked the most beautiful island in the world for 2025

Sri Lanka has been crowned the most beautiful island in the world, taking the top spot on the list of “The 50 Best Islands in the World” compiled by the global travel site Big 7 Travel.
The list, released last week, features destinations from around the globe, celebrating trending hotspots, remote escapes and iconic favourites. Rankings were based on a combination of previous media results, insights from Big 7 Travel’s editorial team, social media popularity, and destinations gaining attention among travellers in 2025.
Sri Lanka claimed the top position, followed by Mo’orea in French Polynesia and Yemen’s Socotra. Madeira (Portugal) and the Galapagos Islands (Ecuador) rounded out the top five.
Describing Sri Lanka, the travel site wrote: “This teardrop-shaped island off the southern coast of India has it all, from golden beaches to terraced tea plantations… It’s easy to see why Marco Polo called Sri Lanka ‘the finest island of its size in all the world’.”
The top 10 islands in the 2025 ranking are: Sri Lanka, Mo’orea, Socotra, Madeira, the Galapagos, Great Exuma (Bahamas), Seychelles, Achill Island (Ireland), Koh Lipe (Thailand) and Milos (Greece).
Sri Lanka’s position at the top is particularly notable given the competition from well-established tourist hubs like the Galápagos Islands and Seychelles.
The island’s diverse tourism offerings, combined with its recent emphasis on sustainable practices, have helped it stand out as a leading global destination.
The announcement of Sri Lanka taking the title as the world’s most beautiful island in 2025 is a major achievement for the growing tourism sector in the country.
With a rising tourism industry, Sri Lanka is definitely on the rise and is well on its way to becoming one of the world’s best travel destinations for the foreseeable future!
Some tourists from Denmark, Germany, and the UK who were travelling by train from Fort railway station to southern Galle shared their views on Sri Lanka’s beauty and said to Mojo News that there are “various types of beauty” that belong to the small island – Sri Lanka.
“Every province in Sri Lanka has its own unique natural beauty. In the North and Eastern, Palm trees and blue seas…. in the South, coral reefs and beautiful beaches…… In the middle of the country, beautiful waterfalls, tea plantations, and beautiful mountain ranges….. In addition, the scenic beauty everywhere is very attractive,” said Luvi Karl from Denmark and Babra Scott from the UK.
“There is something unique about Sri Lanka that makes you want to come back again and again. So your country is beautiful,” further said Luvi Karl.
In March this year, Sri Lanka was also revealed to be the world’s most family-friendly country for 2025, according to luxury travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller.
A new report by Condé Nast Traveller has crowned Sri Lanka as the best country for families to relocate to in 2025.
