Woman DIG to head Kalutara District, a first in history

Acting Inspector General of  Police Priyantha Weerasuriya has taken steps to appoint a female Deputy Inspector General in charge of a district for the first time in the over 158-year history of the Sri Lanka Police.

The Acting IG has appointed Padmini Weerasuriya, who served as the Deputy Inspector General in charge of Police Welfare Division, as the Kalutara District Chief. This appointment has been made with the approval of the National Police Commission.

Deputy Inspector General G.A.N.L. Wijesena who was working as Kalutara Police Chief has been appointed as the Welfare Division Director.
