Support from Jeevan Thondaman to protect the Vedda Community in Sri Lanka

At a time speaking about the nation as a majority and minority, the support of a non-Sinhalese person in the Parliament to protect Sri Lanka’s first people community is commendable. The Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) General Secretary Jeevan Thondaman told in a parliamentary session yesterday, the 08th of November,  that he will support the protection of the Adivasis or the Vedda community, the first ethnic community in Sri Lanka,

Jeevan Thondaman who said that “Vedda community is the first people of this country. They are facing the threat of extinction.”, said also that he supports the proposals that the Vedda community should be represented in the Parliament.

And further, he said that just as the Vedda people should be given parliamentary representation, there should also be a ministry that ensures their welfare and security.
