Diana’s Dual Citizenship: CID asked to furnish report

(Colombo, Oct 27) The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to submit a report by November 10 as regards the investigation against State Minister Diana Gamage over a complaint that she had obtained a Sri Lankan passport despite being a British national. Following this order, CID has to submit details of Diana Gamage’s National Identity card, Pass port and her birth certificate.
The court issued the directive consequent to a motion filed by the Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) pertaining to the case initiated by Oshala Hearth.
The 21st Amendment prohibits dual citizens from becoming MPs, and the SJB has moved the court against the state minister.
Diana Gamage has been in the news for her campaign to legalize the cultivation and use of cannabis.
