To pay taxes, remove unnecessary State expenses – Kusal Perera

“Any government has to levy taxes to cover up State expenses. That is not disputed. What is therefore important is, not to have unnecessary and wasteful State expenses.” said Kusal Perera, a Veteran political commentator, and senior journalist.

” This country has numerous unwanted and unnecessary expenses budgeted continuously. It is the responsibility of the government to remove all such unnecessary expenses and levy reasonable taxes from the People.” he said.

And he introduces some suggestions that People should therefore force the government to; Restrict MP’s remuneration to their monthly wage and fuel expenses only, Defense allocation to be kept at Rs.200 bn with due attention paid to Rupee depreciation and in line with the allocation provided in 2009 when the war was brought to an end,  Remove a totally unacceptable monthly allowance of Rs.50,000 to medical doctors as DAT and to have an attendance register for overtime payment to be transparent and accountable (being strong patriots, guess medical doctors would not protest) , and Cut down the number of LG body representations immediately by 60 percent.

Also, Kusal Perera said that with that to,   fix the minimum taxable limit for individual taxes at Rs.200,000 per month, Remove all indirect taxes including VAT from essential food items.

He emphasized that people have a right to demand the government enforce these proposals.

“People should therefore lobby MPs in their area to request the government implement them without further delay,” he said.

END.
