Another step to suppress protesters

When people and Lawyers demand an immediate end to the crackdown, arrests, and detentions implemented using the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), there is another attempt to pass a new bill called the “Bureau of Rehabilitation” to further carry out the repression on people, said the Convener of Youth for a Change, Lahiru Weerasekera calling on the public to “strongly oppose it”.
By implementing the Prevention of Terrorism Act, Wasantha Mudalige, Siridhamma Himi, and Heshan Jeevantha have been arrested and detained. After that, high-security zones were named in the Colombo district. In spite of it, our boys and girls and who came to the demonstration that day, a large number of people were arrested. Beaten by the police. but now is taking an effort to pass a new bill called Rehabilitation Bureau to suppress people through it further.” he said.
Parliamentarian Namal Rajapakse recently spoke about this rehabilitation Bureau proposal stating that the law must apply to the people who led the struggle, but the people who were simply involved in the struggle without a meaning should be rehabilitated and socialized.
Lahiru Weerasekera said that people who bring inconsistent proposals and ordinances should be rehabilitated when thousands of people are starving.
Also, he questioned whether people like Deshabandu Tennakone, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sanath Nishantha, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who are suppressing the people of the country by misusing the law, should be rehabilitated.
In a public meeting held in Wattala to explain the next steps of the struggle, Lahiru Weerasekara said that the people should not only ridicule the decrees brought by the Ranil Rajapaksa government for suppression but also should show strong protest and give their full contribution to ending such suppression.
