Today is World Children’s Day – No National policy to protect children

It is revealed that although 65 years have passed since the establishment of the Department of Probation and Child Protective Services, the formulation of a national policy and related legislation in accordance with the Universal Charter to protect the rights of children has not been accomplished so far.

As indicated by the National Audit Office, although the Cabinet approved an alternative care policy on March 06, 2019, the policy has not been substantially implemented even by March 25 of this year (2022).

However, there is a strong need for a responsible import at the national level to stand up for the safety and rights of children in Sri Lanka these days.

On the eve of World Children’s Day, there were reports of two schoolgirls brutally beaten up by the principals of two schools.
