‘Don’t trample the democratic rights of the people with iron shoes’ – Harsha de Silva

“Although Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabry told the United Nations that the government is ready to listen to the opinion of the people and that the people have the constitutional right to protest, on the same day 84 protestors were arrested in Colombo and On the contrary, something opposite happened, So, we ask President not to crush the democratic rights of the people with iron shoes and not to destroy them,” said MP Harsha De Silva.

But Harsha De Silva, a former finance minister says that this oppressive situation must change immediately, that if the economic reforms desired by the president are to be carried out, the people must be drawn to their side and the truth must be told to the people and the economic reforms must be carried out by applying a burden that the people can bear,” stated the MP to media.

“Otherwise, these cannot be done by setting up high security zones, putting D.Os under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, putting them in dark rooms, harassing and scaring them. Do not crush the democratic rights of the people with iron shoes. We ask President Ranil Wickremesinghe not to destroy.” he declared.

Also, he said that he knows Ranil Wickramasinghe very well and that he had no need to create such an atmosphere in the country and it is impossible for him to implement such things.

“Ranil Wickramasinghe may have thought that it would be better to stop the struggle before it happened, thinking that if there was another struggle, he too would have to go home.” the MP added.

END.
