Pre-Budget Discussion on the Maritime Transport and Logistics Sector

A pre-budget discussion related to the maritime transport and logistics sector was held today (16) at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of the Minister of Labor and Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando.

Representatives from the maritime transport and logistics sector submitted their budget proposals pertinent to their areas, while also demonstrating comprehensive support for the initiative launched by the President and the government aimed at revitalizing the nation’s economy.

In addition, extensive discussions were held on how the maritime industry could contribute to the promotion of the tourism sector.

The discussion also focused on the significant role the maritime transport and logistics sector can play in strengthening imports and exports, as well as on developing currently inactive ports to generate revenue.

It was further discussed that, through investment in infrastructure and the provision of competitive services, Sri Lanka has the potential to secure a considerable share of the global maritime trade.

Senior Presidential Advisor on Economic Affairs Duminda Hulugamuwa, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Kapila Janaka Bandara, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board Mangala Wijesinghe, ministry officials and several stakeholders from the maritime transport and logistics sector also participated in this occasion.
