The beginning of a step to protect irrigation resources!
It is reported that the tank reserve surveying program has been launched in Hambantota with the aim of preserving Sri Lanka’s irrigation resources, protecting the environment and providing a sustainable legacy for future generations.
The inaugural ceremony of this program to mark the boundaries of tank reserves and protect protected areas under the Clean Sri Lanka project was held on August 30th at the Ridiyagama Tank in Hambantota, with the Deputy Minister of Lands and Irrigation, Dr. Susil Ranasinghe, participating as the chief guest.
Officials of the Clean Sri Lanka project, government employees in the area and the farming community also contributed to the program, and the importance of joining hands to protect the Ridiyagama Tank was emphasized.
The Minister stated that this project will take a big step towards national tank conservation, environmental protection and sustainable livelihood of farmers.
A large number of people including Hambantota District Coordination Committee Chairman MP Nihal Galappaththi, Hambantota District Parliamentarian Athula Welapaligoda, Hambantota District Irrigation Director, Divisional Secretaries, and Pradeshiya Sabha Chairmen and other MPs were reported to have participated in the event.
