”Violence is used to solve problems in society. Social media is largely responsible for spreading hatred and violence in society. Social media has been used ideologically throughout the past. Today, young people have become victims and behave violently in society,” say psychiatrists.

The findings of the psychiatrists indicate that young people in today’s society are mostly resorting to violent acts through the use of social media.

Karapitiya National Hospital Specialist Psychiatrist Rumi Ruben stated that people who are inclined to such violent acts should be identified at the initial stage and steps should be taken to guide them in the right direction.

“These young people can join underworld gangs with drugs. They can join various armed gangs. They even have problems controlling their anger. Once they join such a subculture, it is difficult to escape from them. “To change that culture, it is very important to bring the members of the underworld gangs to justice. The most important thing that can be done to reduce this situation is to identify those who are subjected to such things at the earliest and provide them with the necessary rehabilitation,” explained Rumi Ruben, a specialist psychiatrist at the Karapitiya National Hospital, who further commented on the occasion.
