Driving licenses for foreign tourists from today in Katunayake!

The Office of the Commissioner General of Motor Transport announced that a window for issuing driving licenses required for foreigners visiting the country will be opened at the Katunayake International Airport premises from today, August 03, to facilitate self-transportation in the country.

So far, this activity was carried out at the Motor Transport Commissioner’s Office in Werahera, but from today, this activity will be started at the Katunayake Airport premises for the convenience of tourists, said Commissioner General of Motor Transport Kamal Amarasinghe.

He also said that his office has observed that foreigners visiting Sri Lanka often rent vehicles from the Katunayake Airport or nearby places and act as drivers on their trips, and that they use motorcycles and three-wheelers as well as light vehicles for this purpose.

He further stated that under this new system, only light vehicle and motorcycle licenses will be issued to foreigners, and that no driving licenses will be issued for heavy vehicles or three-wheelers.
