Shooter recruited via social media – Police

The shooter responsible for killing the notorious criminal and drug trafficker Ganemulla Sanjeewa was recruited for the job through social media, Police Media Spokesperson, SSP Buddhika Manathunga, revealed.

Speaking to a private electronic media network yesterday (24), he disclosed that the suspect, a former military officer, had been approached via Facebook.

The orchestrators of the crime, initiated contact with simple inquiries such as, “You don’t have a job, right? Are you just staying idle?” before making proposals like, “Let’s do a little business.” However, as discussions progressed, this so-called business turned into involvement in the killing. SSP Manathunga noted that it was evident many individuals engaging in such crimes were former military personnel.
