A special clinic to provide free HIV risk reduction medication (PrEP) will be held today, Sunday 09 – Colombo 10, at the main clinic of the STD and AIDS Control Program located in Serem Padesi from 8.30 am to 2.00 pm today, the director of the National STD and AIDS Control Program Medical Expert said. Mrs. Janaki Vidanapathirana stated.
Dr. Vidanapathirana said that this clinic is held on the second Sunday of every month at the same place and the privacy of the people receiving the medicine is protected to the utmost and necessary steps have been taken to prevent their identity from being revealed to others.

Taking this medication (PrEP) before unprotected sex prevents 99% of the transmission of HIV from one person to another. The news further emphasizes the importance of avoiding unprotected sex and wearing a condom when it is not a faithful relationship.
