Several requests from the Eastern Women’s Federation to the government


The Eastern Province Women’s Federation, affiliated to the women’s Desk of the Negombo National Fisheries Solidarity Movement (NAFSO), held its general meeting on January 20 and discussed the economic and social problems faced by the people of the country.
“And also we discussed the issues in depth, the women of the Eastern Province are especially facing.” said in the press conference Chandrika Manel, General Secretary of the Women’s Federation.
” In our depth discussion held districts-wise, as Batticaloa, Trincomalee, and Ampara, we identified some of the main problems we still face as women.” She told the media.
According to them, mainly elephant-human conflict, land, and housing problems and basic needs faced by war-affected women, lack of food with proper nutrition and lack of medicine related to health problems, social problems such as increasing drug use, rising fuel prices as fisheries problems and the problem of not having enough fuel for fishing are special problems faced by women in all the three districts.
They said that they expect sustainable solutions from the government for all the problems identified as districts in the Eastern Province, and they will submit the solutions they expect to the government in writing.
