The local government election will be held in March

Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake has stated that the local government elections will be held for 341 local government bodies operating in the country by March 20 next year and preparations will be made to announce the new members through the gazette.

It is reported that he also stated that his commission has the legal provisions for that.

With the appointment of a commission for the delimitation of local government divisions, various opinions have been expressed that the local government election cannot be held on March 20.

Meanwhile, the chairman of that commission, Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya, also stated the other day that by appointing a commission to determine the boundaries of local government divisions, there is no obstacle to holding the local government election before March 20.
