Colombo city dormant after 10.00 pm

There are no entertainment activities in Colombo City after 10.00 pm and the city becomes dormant, We should create opportunities to spend money for those who have and wish to spend, Tourism State Minister Diana Gamage said.

Addressing the media on Wednesday (14), State Minister said that most people come to cities for dining and to spend time at pubs. But here in Colombo City, the situation is entirely different. People don’t have nightlife here. All the shops and entertainment providers pull their shutters down after 10.00 pm.

The state minister stated that since Sri Lanka is an island, there are many things that can be sold abroad in Sri Lanka, the tourism industry is not just one sector, it is divided into many sectors such as entertainment, education, health, cultural, agricultural tourism, etc. in such way Dollars can be earned, She said.

“Entertainment” means, people, come to eat, drink, go to clubs, night clubs and have fun. This is really less in our country today. Because we cannot force money from tourists coming to our country. To get money, they need to be given opportunities to spend their money. But if Colombo is dormant after 10.00 pm, there is no place to spend. Therefore, we have to create those opportunities. “Night life – Night Economy is that,” she said.

The minister also mentioned that such opportunities should be identified correctly and developed in Sri Lanka, and such tourism industry should be developed in Sri Lanka.
