All Arrangements Finalized for 78th National Independence Day Celebrations

All arrangements have been finalized to hold the 78th National Independence Day celebration at Independence Square under the theme “Let’s Build Sri Lanka,” said S. Aloka Bandara, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government.

He made these remarks while addressing the official media briefing on the Independence Day celebrations held at the Government Information Department today (29).

The Secretary stated that this year’s celebrations will follow a revised format similar to last year, with around 2,000 invitees expected to attend. Emphasizing the national and international significance of Independence Day, he noted that it plays a vital role in strengthening national identity, reconciliation, and cultural and religious harmony.

He further said that celebrations will be held simultaneously at provincial, district, and regional levels, alongside community-based programs such as Shramadana and tree-planting campaigns. Activities will also be conducted under the leadership of several ministries, including the Ministry of Education.
