Two Health & Wellness Centres Opened in Anuradhapura District
Two Health and Wellness Centres were inaugurated yesterday in the Anuradhapura District under the national programme to expand Health and Wellness Centres islandwide, implemented by the government to strengthen primary healthcare services.
As proposed in the 2026 Budget, the programme aims to establish centres serving populations of 5,000 to 10,000 people, with Rs. 1,500 million allocated for its pilot phase. Under the initial stage, 42 centres have been launched across the country, including two in Anuradhapura at Kurundankulama and Ranpatwila.
The Kurundankulama centre was opened by Parliamentarian Bhagya Sri Herath, while the Ranpatwila centre was inaugurated by Parliamentarian N. K. Palihena.
These centres will provide services such as non-communicable disease screening and treatment, cancer detection, mental and eye health care, nutrition and alcohol prevention counselling, youth and adolescent care, and selected laboratory services.
The opening ceremonies were attended by local government representatives, North Central Province Chief Secretary Ranjana Jayasinghe, Mihinthale Divisional Secretary Anuruddha Nakabandara, and health officials.
