Foreign Minister Calls on Overseas Sri Lankans to Invest in Economic Revival

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath has invited Sri Lankans living around the world to invest in Sri Lanka, citing growing political stability and strengthening economic conditions that have renewed investor confidence.

The Minister made these remarks yesterday (20) at the inauguration of construction work on the AUREUM Hotel Complex, which is being restarted with investment from Luxembourg. He noted that European investments are once again flowing into Sri Lanka, reflecting increased confidence in the country’s recovery and future prospects.

Minister Herath said the hotel complex had previously been unable to continue operations due to the economic crisis and prevailing social conditions at the time, which also led to the closure of several tourist hotels across the country. However, he emphasized that Sri Lanka has now embarked on a strong recovery path, signaling a positive future.

He added that the reopening of the AUREUM Hotel Complex in a new form would bring significant benefits to the people of Wattala, including employment opportunities and local economic growth.

Highlighting the revival of the tourism sector, the Minister stated that last year marked a historic milestone, recording the highest number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka. He attributed this success to the country’s natural beauty, renowned hospitality, and the stability that has emerged in recent times, attracting visitors from around the world.

Concluding his address, Minister Herath urged Sri Lankans overseas to take part in the country’s renewed growth by investing in Sri Lanka and contributing to its long-term development.
