Stupa Pinnacle Missing from Nattandiya Temple
The pinnacle and the sacred finial gem of a stupa at Chandrasekhararamaya Temple in Pilakatumulla, Nattandiya, have gone missing, with a complaint being lodged with the Marawila Headquarters Police.
According to the complaint, the stupa pinnacle is believed to have been missing since the night of September 11.
The complaint was lodged by Jayasinghe Mudalige Aberathna, the lay custodian of the temple.
The monk who had been residing at the temple is currently not staying there due to illness, according to information provided to the police.
Mr. Aberathna said the missing pinnacle and finial gem are estimated to be worth around Rs. 1 million.
Police investigations into the incident have commenced under the instructions of Nattandiya Assistant Superintendent of Police Dammika Hapugoda and under the direction of Marawila Headquarters Chief Inspector of Police Sarath Samaraweera.
Officers attached to the Crime Investigation Division of the Marawila Police are conducting further investigations.
