Coast Guard rescues 10 individuals from drowning

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) successfully rescued ten (10) local and foreign tourists from drowning during lifesaving operations conducted across various coastal regions of the island from 24th to 27th December 2025.

The SLCG operates life-saving posts along key tourist attracting beaches around the country and through lifesaving rescue missions carried out in the seas off Mount Lavinia, Balapitiya, Mirissa and Nilaweli, Coast Guard lifesavers were able to rescue seven (07) foreign nationals and three (03) local tourists.

The rescued individuals comprised male and female nationals from Russia, Ukraine, and Jordan aged between 14 and 50 years.

Since its establishment in 2009, the Coast Guard Department has successfully rescued over 2,500 lives, including 1,160 foreign nationals.
