Sri Lanka, Kuwait Agree to Expand Cooperation in Ports, Aviation and Investment
Sri Lanka and Kuwait have agreed to further expand practical cooperation in the port, aviation, trade, investment and energy sectors, while exploring new investment opportunities in Sri Lanka and strengthening direct coordination between relevant institutions of the two countries.
The agreement was reached during a meeting held this morning between Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilaka and Ambassador of Kuwait to Sri Lanka Saleh Mubarak Al-Sarawi at the Ministry premises.
The two sides discussed the importance of signing an agreement on political consultations between Sri Lanka and Kuwait, which would provide a broader framework for cooperation in areas including internal affairs, education, health and ports.
Given Sri Lanka’s strategic geographical location, the meeting also focused on sharing knowledge and experience in the port sector, exchanging delegations and establishing direct coordination between relevant institutions of the two countries.
Discussions were also held on promoting Sri Lanka’s investment opportunities among Kuwaiti investors, particularly in the energy and industrial sectors.
The two sides further agreed to facilitate exchanges between the chambers of commerce of Sri Lanka and Kuwait to strengthen trade cooperation.
Ambassador Al-Sarawi commended the objectives and progress of Sri Lanka’s new Government and emphasized the importance of further improving communication between the two countries and strengthening bilateral relations.
Both sides agreed to continue strengthening the longstanding friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Kuwait while expanding practical cooperation in the economic, trade, port, investment and other sectors.
Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku and Ministry Secretary W.W.S. Mangala also participated in the meeting.
