Kannagi Amman Jetty Road Rehabilitation Project Inspected
The project to widen and rehabilitate the road leading to the Kannagi Amman Jetty in Kayts, being implemented under the Rebuilding Sri Lanka programme, was inspected by Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Ramalingam Chandrasekar yesterday (16).
During his visit to the area, the Minister reviewed the current progress of the development work and inquired from officials about the inconveniences faced by the public due to the ongoing construction. He instructed officials to ensure that the rehabilitation work is completed to a high standard and within the stipulated timeframe.
Discussions were also held on plans to further expand the Kannagi Amman Jetty next year and the necessary preliminary arrangements for the proposed development.
An allocation of Rs. 160 million has already been made under the Rebuilding Sri Lanka programme for the jetty expansion. However, officials noted that approximately Rs. 250 million would be required to complete the entire project.
Accordingly, steps are already underway to secure the additional Rs. 90 million required for the project, with the Minister assuring that appropriate measures would be taken to obtain the necessary funding.
