Sharp rise in Syphilis cases among men in Sri Lanka
Men account for the majority of reported early syphilis cases in Sri Lanka, with cases among men significantly outnumbering those among women, according to data from the National STD/AIDS Control Programme.
In 2025, 508 early syphilis cases were reported among men, compared to 175 cases among women.
This represents a sharp increase compared to 2019, when 89 cases were recorded among men and 31 among women.
The figures show that reported cases among men increased by 471% between 2019 and 2025, while cases among women rose by 465% during the same period.
Accordingly, early syphilis cases among men were nearly three times higher than those among women in 2025.
