“Clean Cities” National Waste Management Program to Start in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa!

Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Prabha Ruwan Senarath said that the “Clean Cities” National Waste Management Program will be implemented with the aim of providing sustainable solutions to waste management across the island and turning waste into a resource with economic value rather than a burden on the environment.

The Deputy Minister made this statement while participating in the Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa District Basic Planning Discussion of this program, which is being implemented according to a concept by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, recently (30).

At the meeting, the waste problems in the two districts, the data collected, the proposed solutions and the challenges that may arise in their implementation were reviewed.

The discussion, chaired by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Professor Chandana Abeyratne, and Deputy Minister Prabha Ruwan Senarath, was attended by Members of Parliament, Heads of Local Government Institutions, Government Officials, Officers of the Clean Sri Lanka Programme and Expert Committee Members.

This national programme is planned to be implemented islandwide over the next three years with the active participation of Local Government Institutions.
