Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Launches “Lanka Ride 2025”
For the first time in history, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has announced the launch of “Lanka Ride 2025”, a national-level cycling tour organized in collaboration with the Lake House Group, the Department of Sports Development, and the Cycling Referees’ Association.
A media briefing to unveil the event was held yesterday (Nov. 12) at the Ministry premises, chaired by Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage and Deputy Minister Sugath Thilakaratne.
The cycling tour will kick off on December 18 in front of the Lake House premises, featuring a 7 km free ride on the opening day. The official race will then begin from Peliyagoda Police Station and cover 106 km to Gannoruwa. On December 19, cyclists will ride 136 km from Kandy to Anuradhapura via Dambulla, and on December 20, the final 208 km stage from Anuradhapura to Independence Square, Colombo, will conclude the event.
Attractive cash prizes await the winners — Rs. 6 lakhs for first place, Rs. 5 lakhs for second, and Rs. 4 lakhs for third, with prizes extended up to the 25th position. Additional awards include Rs. 2 lakhs for the best youth cyclist (under 23), Rs. 1 lakh for the King of the Mountain, Rs. 1 lakh for intermediate sprint winners, Rs. 2 lakhs for the best team, and Rs. 1 lakh for the runner-up team.
Teams consisting of 4 to 6 cyclists are eligible to participate, and applications will be accepted until December 12.
The event marks a major milestone in promoting cycling, fitness, and youth sports development in Sri Lanka.
