Major Renovation Begins at Pettah Central Bus Stand After Six Decades
Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake announced that renovation work at the Pettah Central Bus Stand is expected to be completed by the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
He made this remark while attending the inauguration ceremony held today (15) to officially commence the long-awaited renovation project.
The Minister noted that no major refurbishment had been carried out at the bus stand for nearly 60 years. Highlighting the importance of modernizing public transport, he stressed that the country’s economy cannot progress without strengthening this sector.
Minister Ratnayake further stated that inefficiency, fraud, corruption, and mismanagement within institutions have crippled the public transport system over the past five to six decades, despite employing far more workers than necessary.
