Workshop to brief government executive officials on the use of AI

Another session in the special series of workshops on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), organized for government executive officials to transform public service into an efficient and effective system, was held yesterday (12) at the Temple Trees.

This workshop, titled “AI for Transforming Public Service”, was organized by the Ministry of Digital Economy with the support of the Presidential Secretariat and was attended by executive officials from various government ministries.

This workshop was organized as an introductory initiative under the government’s digitalization programme for the public service, aiming to raise awareness among government officials, prepare them for AI adoption and foster a positive approach toward the use of artificial intelligence within the public sector.

Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, emphasized that the public service must be prepared for digital transformation and that existing structures need to be adapted accordingly. He further noted that, to regain public trust and overcome associated challenges, the use of Artificial Intelligence should focus on delivering more efficient and effective services to the people.

Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Senior Advisor to the President on the Digital Economy, delivered the keynote address at this workshop. Officials from the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), including Board Members Harsha Purasinghe and Samisa Abeysinghe, also contributed their expertise and support to the event.

Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Dr. B. K. Kolitha Kamal Jinadasa, Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption Ranga Srinath Abeywickrama Dissanayake, representatives from all government Commissions, as well as officials from the Western Provincial Council and various government departments, also participated in the event.
