Ella bus accident is a tragedy! Jeep driver arrested!!

A horrific bus accident occurred last night (04) near the 24th kilometer post on the Ella-Wellawaya road, and 15 people have been reported to have died in the accident so far. It is also reported that no information has been found about one of the bus passengers.

Tangalla Municipal Council Secretary T.W.K. Rupasena and 12 municipal employees were among the deceased.

According to the police, two young children and the bus driver were among the deceased.

18 people injured in the accident have been admitted to the Badulla Teaching Hospital, Bandarawela, and Diyatalawa hospitals.

It is reported that a bus carrying Tangalla Municipal Council employees and their families on a picnic has met with an accident.

The police, the army, the air force, the fire service department, and local residents had made great efforts to rescue the injured.

Meanwhile, the police said that a person suspected of being responsible for this tragedy has been arrested.

“The bus was travelling from Ella towards Wellawaya when it collided with an oncoming jeep and overturned. The driver of the jeep in question has been arrested in connection with the accident.”
