Wasantha Mudalige further remanded

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court ordered that the convener of the Inter-University Student Union Wasantha Mudalige, who is remanded under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, be remanded until the 17th of next January.

On that day, the Additional Magistrate ordered the Terrorist Investigation Unit to complete the investigations in this regard promptly and report to the court.

“For the mistake of fighting for the people of this country, Wasantha Mudalige was ordered to be remanded in custody until the 17th of January.”

Ven. Siridamma Thero, the convener of the Inter-University Monks’ Council, said that he was not detained for 89 days under the Prevention of Terrorism Act PTA, as is being spread in some media, but he is still being held without release under the same Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Stating that the government’s decision is also the Attorney General’s decision, Siridamma Thero repeatedly said that Wasantha Mudalige is being held in prison without release based on the Attorney General’s decision.

Siridamma Thero said that due to the failure of this government, the people of the country still do not have the freedom to live, and the fear that the people will rise up against the government again against the injustice, Siridamma Thero said.

But Siridamma Thero  emphasized that we cannot be stopped by such imprisonments or repressions and the country’s problems will not be answered.

Again and again we, the Inter-University Students’ Federation, and the Inter-University Monks’ Federation say that this very inhuman act to prevent terrorism should be repealed. Under that, all the prisoners who have been arrested illegally should be released. We remind the government including Ranil Wickramasinghe that they will continue this fight unconditionally until Wasantha Mudalige is released.
