Former Sri Lankan Airlines Chairman arrested and remanded!

Former SriLankan Airlines Chairman Nishantha Wickramasinghe was arrested and remanded by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on corruption charges.
He was accused of causing a financial loss of US$4,512 to the government by changing the destination of flight UL319, which was scheduled to travel from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Katunayake on 22 January 2014.
He was also accused of causing a financial loss of US$19,160 to the government by disembarking 75 passengers who had arrived in Sri Lanka from the Maldives on flight UL563, which was scheduled to depart for France on 26 January 2014.
Wickramasinghe was also accused of misusing public funds amounting to LKR 1,250,000 on 19 December 2014, allegedly used for the former President’s election campaign held at the 18th Mile Post Stadium in Katunayake.
Nishantha Wickremesinghe, the brother of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, served as the Chairman of Sri Lankan Airlines when Mahinda Rajapaksa was President.
