Special programme held at Wilpotha Bandaranaike Skills School

Wilpotha Bandaranaike Skills School organised a special programme to coincide with World Children’s Day, the International Day of Older Persons and Teachers’ Day.

The programme was aimed at promoting cultural and religious values among schoolchildren and creating awareness of religious harmony and unity.

Members of the Buddhist, Hindu and Islamic communities in the area participated in the programme.

As part of the event, one hundred Buddhist monks took part in a pindapatha procession to bless the teachers, elders and schoolchildren. A dana programme was subsequently organised at the school premises for the monks.

The programme also sought to introduce children to the importance of respecting different religions and cultures and living together in harmony and unity from their school years.

The school has also been recognised with a Gold Award in the Grade 1–11 school category at the National Productivity Awards for its activities and programmes.

Blessings were also offered to teachers in connection with Teachers’ Day, which falls on October 5.
