All Set for 67th State Literary Awards Ceremony on September 8
All arrangements have been finalized for the 67th State Literary Awards Ceremony 2026, which will be held on September 8 under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Chairman of the Sri Lanka Arts Council, Keerthi Walisarage, said.
He made these remarks at a special media briefing held at the Department of Government Information today (3).
More than 1,500 printed books in all three languages, published during the past year, have been submitted for consideration at this year’s awards, Walisarage said.
The books were selected through a transparent three-stage evaluation process under the supervision of the Literary Sub-Committee.
Awards will be presented in several categories, including novels, short stories, poetry, academic publications and translations, with more than 150 writers expected to receive awards.
The National Language Award, introduced last year, will also be presented this year. In addition, separate awards will be introduced for works on folklore and biographies.
Walisarage emphasized the importance of such recognition in promoting and advancing literature in Sri Lanka, adding that the views of writers, critics and readers had been gathered over the past year in developing the awards process.
