President instructs establishment of an Office of the Commissioner General of Essential Services!

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed the establishment of an Office of the Commissioner General of Essential Services, centred at the Prime Minister’s Office, under the leadership of the Director General of Essential Services, to coordinate the necessary measures to restore normalcy to the lives of people affected by the disaster situation.

Central ministries, including the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government; the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development; the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation; and the Ministry of Housing Construction and Water Supply, together with institutions under their purview such as the Sri Lanka Railways Department, the Department of Irrigation, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, the Ceylon Electricity Board, the Road Development Authority and the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation, as well as a team of officials representing the Tri-Forces, are to be assigned to carry out duties at this centre.

The President also stressed the need for this centre to function as a unified operations hub to ensure coordination and facilitation across all these agencies.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake issued these instructions during a discussion held yesterday morning (30) at the Presidential Secretariat to review urgent measures required to restore normalcy following the easing of the disaster situation.
