Sri Lanka officially opened its first Honorary Consulate in the Philippines in Davao City on 25 July, with Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath inaugurating the new office.
The opening marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Philippines and aims to improve consular services for Sri Lankans and Philippine nationals in the Mindanao region.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister Herath said the Consulate is both a practical step to enhance consular services and a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two countries. He added that it will also help strengthen cooperation in trade, tourism, investment, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
The inauguration was attended by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Philippines Dr. Chanaka Talpahewa, government officials, and members of the Sri Lankan community in the Philippines.
