Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Officially Begin in Scotland
The 23rd Commonwealth Games (Glasgow 2026) officially commenced on Wednesday (23) in Glasgow, Scotland.
More than 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories are taking part in the 11-day event, competing in 10 sports and six para sports.
The opening ceremony was held at The Hydro in Glasgow, where King Charles III and Queen Camilla officially declared the Games open.
According to international media reports, the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games are being staged under a reduced-cost model, with fewer sports included compared to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Competitions will be held across four major venues located within an eight-mile radius of Glasgow city.
This marks the second time Scotland has hosted the Commonwealth Games since Glasgow 2014.
Athletics events are scheduled to begin on July 27. Sri Lanka is represented by a 40-member contingent, who will compete in seven sports during the Games.
