Narahenpita Railway Station Modernisation Project Commences
The project to modernise the Narahenpita Railway Station commenced yesterday (27) under the “Dream Destination” programme, implemented in line with the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative.
Recognised as another key station on the Kelani Valley railway line, the Narahenpita Railway Station is located between Cotta Road and Kirulapone stations. Situated 5.06 km from Colombo and 3.72 metres above sea level, the station consists of two main platforms and a single ticket counter.
Surrounded by several state, semi-state and private institutions, including the Labour Department, the Department of Motor Traffic and the Department of Meteorology, the station is used on a daily basis by large numbers of passengers travelling for official duties.
For the convenience of these passengers, the modernisation works include the construction of an overhead passenger bridge connecting the platforms across the tracks, the installation of a roof over the second platform, improved sanitary facilities and the provision of comfortable seating for passengers at the station. The project is being carried out with full support from the private sector and technical collaboration from NIO Engineering.
