Sri Lanka’s Food Insecurity Declines to 16% – World Food Programme

The World Food Programme (WFP) has revealed that food insecurity in Sri Lanka has dropped from 24% to 16%.

This was announced by the new WFP Representative, Mr. Philip Ward, during his meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, after presenting his credentials Yesterday (18).

Minister Herath highlighted the government’s priorities under the National Development Agenda, including poverty alleviation, food security, and stronger social protection for vulnerable groups. He also expressed Sri Lanka’s commitment to working with the WFP to promote sustainable development and enhance the well-being of its people.

Mr. Ward assured that the WFP will continue to support Sri Lanka through initiatives designed in line with the country’s national priorities.
