“Understand the facts and behave peacefully” – Cabinet Spokesperson

Presenting the government’s view on the hartal to be held tomorrow (August 18) against the death of a person trying to enter an army camp in the North, Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said, “Investigations are underway. Three soldiers have already been arrested and handed over to the courts. Therefore, the people of the country need to understand the facts and behave peacefully.”
He also said that it appears that certain political groups are trying to create unrest among the people of the North and East by distorting the facts of this incident and spreading false information.
Furthermore, Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa urges the people of the North and East to refrain from being deceived by the distortions and false propaganda targeting the government and the security forces.
The hartal is scheduled to be implemented tomorrow (18) following the death of a person who tried to forcefully enter the camp of the 12th Lions Regiment, which is to be evacuated, located in Shivanagar, Mullaitivu.
Other information received from the North indicated that the entry was not forced, but that the army camp was entered with the knowledge of the officers to collect things there.
