National youth conference to be held after 32 years

Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Eranga Gunasekara said that arrangements have been made to hold a National Youth Conference in Sri Lanka after 32 years.

The conference will be held on August 12 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, and more than 6,000 youth are expected to participate.

Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara said Youth Clubs have now been established in over 12,700 of the 14,002 Grama Seva Divisions across the country. All regional and district conferences have been completed, addressing previous shortcomings where some clubs were inactive and six district conferences had not been held.

“Training for the 52 young people selected for the National Conference is already underway. And the event will also see the introduction of a new board of officers for the Youth Clubs,” said the National Youth Services Council Chairman and Director General, Attorney-at-Law Supun Wijeratne.
