CC approves new Chief Justice!
The Constitutional Council (CC) yesterday (23rd) approved the name of Supreme Court judge Preethi Padman Surasena as the new Chief Justice.
Justice Surasena’s name was nominated by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for the post. He becomes the 49th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka. Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, one of the most senior justices in the Supreme Court.
Accordingly, the Constitutional Council, which convened yesterday, ratified the nomination.
Chief Justice Murdu Fernando is scheduled to retire on July 27, and a new Chief Justice is to be appointed to fill the vacancy shortly.
