National Mosquito Control Week: Over 140 face legal action

Legal action was taken against 143 individuals for maintaining environments conducive to mosquito breeding, the National Dengue Control Unit said, marking the launch of National Mosquito Control Week.
A total of 22,318 locations were inspected yesterday, 30 June, and 4,481 of them were identified as potential breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes. Additionally, 601 red notices were issued following the inspections.
The nationwide initiative, launched by the Ministry of Health, is being carried out across ten districts, with inspections currently ongoing in eight.
Dr. Prasheela Samaraweera, Community Medical Specialist and Media Spokesperson for the National Dengue Control Unit, said that 20% of the inspected sites, roughly one in every five—were confirmed as breeding grounds.
She also noted that 55 high-risk areas have been identified so far, with the Ratnapura District recording the highest concentration of breeding sites.
