SLPP to announce its presidential candidate on Wednesday
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will announce its presidential candidate on Wednesday, SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said.
He said that the announcement will most likely be made at the SLPP party headquarters.
Meanwhile, former diplomat Udayanga Weeratunga said the SLPP will name businessman Dhamika Perera as its presidential candidate.
He said the SLPP has already picked Perera and will formally nominate him on 7th August.
The SLPP has decided to dump President Ranil Wickremesinghe and put forward its own candidate at the Presidential polls.
However, a number of SLPP MPs have decided to go against the party decision and back Wickremesinghe at the 21st September election.
