Over 15,000 Dawoodi Bohra visitors in Colombo  for live broadcast

More than 15,000 Dawoodi Bohra guests have arrived in Colombo to watch the live broadcasts of the Ashara Mubaraka 2024 gatherings taking place in Karachi, Pakistan this year. According to a media statement, the Dawoodi Bohra Masjid complex in Colombo 4 is bustling with activity as the city has been selected for a live broadcast venue.

Each Dawoodi Bohra community center worldwide celebrates the event with a ten-day series of gatherings that address different topics for their local members.

The biggest community gathering occurs at the venue where His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the leader of the worldwide Dawoodi Bohras community, leads congregations. Following the long-standing custom of his ancestors, Syedna Saifuddin selects a new city every year for Ashara Mubaraka.

This year, Karachi has been selected by Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin as the location for Ashara Mubaraka congregations; yet, numerous community members in Colombo, including residents and visitors, will also be able to watch the live broadcast of the congregations from Karachi.

Mufaddal Zainuddin, part of the project management team in Colombo, expressed his warm welcome to all the Dawoodi Bohra guests from around the globe who have congregated in our nation for the Ashara Mubaraka sermons. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin has decided to hold the congregations in Karachi, but we are lucky that Colombo will be the location for the live broadcasts at our centers.

“Our sincere gratitude to government authorities and local bodies for their extraordinary support and permissions in hosting over 15,000 Dawoodi Bohra visitors for this event,” Zainuddin added.

“Participating in the Ashara Mubaraka congregations is a deeply spiritual and enriching experience for our community members. It’s a time for reflection, learning, and coming together in unity,” said Khadija Aliasgar, a Dawoodi Bohra visitor who came to Colombo from Bahrain with her family.

The Colombo community has made thorough preparations for the arrival of visitors to ensure their comfort and well-being. The logistics team has arranged transportation, meals, lodging help, and medical services to guarantee a pleasant experience for all participants.

“We arrived early, but volunteers made sure our experience was smooth and effortless” Adnan Ezzi, who arrived from Hamburg, Germany, stated that they provided a sim card and arranged a car in advance to avoid the inconvenience of early morning transportation.

Ashara Mubaraka is a ten-day period at the beginning of the Islamic New Year that honors Prophet Muhammad SAW, his grandson Imam Husain, his relatives and followers, and their brave commitment to upholding the universal principles of justice, truth, and humanity. These assemblies cover a range of subjects, discussing current issues, providing advice on self-improvement, and highlighting the importance of patriotism, compassion, and serving others.

Meanwhile, In April this year, Sri Lanka anticipated a surge in tourism when the Dawoodi Bohra International Convention was scheduled for July.

Preparing for the arrival of the Bohra spiritual leader in July. Tourism Minister stated in April that more than 30,000 people from approximately 40 countries are anticipated to travel to Sri Lanka for a 12-day visit.
