Missing Prageeth completed 5000 days

For tomorrow’s justice to be fulfilled, the law should be strong. The law is abusing various people in this society. Therefore, where do we get justice? I ask the law to open your blindfolded eyes and look at us. “You will see the criminals and the criminals who protect them by giving them impunity. I request that those criminals should be burned. I request that all criminals who harm lives be removed from this earth.”

Prageeth Ekneligoda’s wife, Sandhya Priyangani Ekneligoda, expressed these views at a press conference held yesterday on the occasion of 5000 days since the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda on October 04.

Sandhya Eknaligoda, who remembered the sacrifices she made in the last period for the justice of her husband who disappeared on January 24, 2010, I was weeping near the Patthini Manio. Kali went to Manio and said Vaskavi. I shaved my head for my husband. I abandoned the enjoy of colors and wore black. I sacrificed my life for my husband’s justice. Today, on the 5000th day, I did another special thing, I worshiped the Goddess of Law. From tomorrow, I will go on my journey with the goddess of law for my husband’s justice.”

Therefore, from the 5001st day onwards, she said that she would also add the Goddess of Law to her journey.

Prageeth went missing on January 24, 2010. From that day till today, local and foreign organizations, individuals and journalists have worked hard to find Pragith. But, Prageeth’s wife, Sandhya, did not stop her journey to seek justice amidst all the insults, discouragements at her.

An exhibition was held at the house where he lived to mark the 5000 days, which included colorful greeting cards and letters and several awards received for him based on the various encouragements sent by friends from home and abroad. Also there were professional documents and cartoons made by Prageeth Eknaligoda while he was alive, some items used in his professional life, drawings, cartoons, etc. And some placards, cartoons draw by Sandhya and his two sons for Prageeth on various occasions after Prageeth disappeared were displayed.

Sandhya Eknaligoda told the media that “for 5000 days, I did not get justice. I have experienced well the way the Rajapaksas and criminals who committed crimes influence the courts of this country. I have faced a lot of torture from these Rajapaksas and perhaps from the monks of this country.”

Sandaya also invited all the women in Sri Lanka to join her at this mile to seek justice not only to her husband but to all the missing persons and establish the truth and justice in Sri Lanka.

And she said in this journey of justice, her big hope is the “Lawyers and their strength” she invited all the lawyers to come forward and walk together.

Speaking to the media at that time, Marimuttu Satyavel Piyathuma, Dr. Ajantha Perera, human rights activists Raja Uswatakeyawa, Siritunga Jayasuriya, Rohini Weerasinghe and Sitthiamma stated that not only Prageeth but all other missing persons will not get justice from a leader like Ranil Wickramasinghe. And that justice should be done through an international investigation with a proper method.

They said that the people should unite to win the justice that Prageeth was deprived in 5000 days and the justice that everyone else deserves.

They emphasized that all the people of Sri Lanka should take the lead to act unitedly, regardless of caste and religion, without further delay to provide justice to those who have been deprived of justice due to the current repressions in Sri Lanka.

Sandhya Ekneligoda announced that the exhibition will be open from yesterday until next Sunday, allowing the public to see and hear how the husband was kept alive for 5000 days, even though the husband was missing, and invited the public to come and see it.
