Minister announces strict measures against harmful plastic baby items
Strict measures will be taken against importers and manufacturers of harmful plastic baby items such as feeding bottles, lunch boxes, water bottles, and toys within the next two months, Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe said today.
“Sample testing and research have revealed that inferior quality and harmful plastic items intended for babies are available in the market,” he told the media.
Also, the Minister said an expert committee covering several Ministries such as the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Industries will be appointed to within the next two months to decide on taking action on the use of harmful plastic items.
