Sri Lanka prepares to face the impact of the Middle East war

Sri Lanka is preparing to address the repercussions of the conflict in the Middle East, and a designated subcommittee has been convened to examine the sectors that may be affected.

The Cabinet subcommittee is led by Vijitha Herath, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, and comprises Samantha Vidyarathne, the Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Facilities, and Wasantha Samarasinghe, the Minister of Trade. Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development, along with Kumara Jayakody (Engineer): Minister of Power.

The Government reported on Wednesday that the Cabinet of Ministers has recognized the necessity for proactive measures concerning potential challenges that Sri Lanka might face in the future, stemming from the current military situation in the Middle East.

The Cabinet of Ministers resolved to form a cabinet subcommittee, along with an additional committee to support the subcommittee, consisting of ministry secretaries, to provide suitable recommendations. The committee is responsible for thoroughly examining the circumstances in the Middle East and assessing the potential impact on Sri Lanka, while evaluating the immediate actions that need to be taken in this context.
