Police seize assets worth Rs 100M

The properties of J.A. Jayasinghe, also known as ‘Bathala Heen Mahattaya’—a resident of Embilipitiya who is suspected by the Police to be one of the country’s largest cannabis traffickers—were suspended by the Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the Police.

The seizure, carried out yesterday (28), involves assets estimated to be worth around Rs 100 million.

The confiscated properties include a three-storey building with a pharmacy located opposite the Embilipitiya General Hospital, and a hotel near the Chandrika Wewa reservoir.

These properties had been purchased under the name of Jayasinghe’s wife. However, the couple has been unable to provide a legitimate explanation for the source of the funds used for these purchases.

As a result, the properties have been suspended for a period of seven days.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate today (29).
